I just finished watching YOU on Netflix and holy jesus this show is BRILLIANT. Disturbing and fucked up, but brilliant. They make you see the world through the eyes of the psycho and he does such a good job at convincing himself that everything he does is for a good reason that you start having sympathy for him like hOLY SHIT ????? I found myself feeling bad for him multiple times just to be like “wait no wtf lol this trash bag needs to rot in hell” only a few seconds later. It’s scary how easily manipulated the human mind can be. And it’s even scarier how real and relatable most of the situations in this show are.

i think this show exists to show that not only is it easy for some people to manipulate others, but also it exists to show why you shouldn’t blame people for being emotionally manipulated. joe was very calculated and had all the intention of “crossing lines” but still managed to not take accountability of his actions. he blames, benji, peach, and beck for all his actions. sure, benji and peach weren’t the best people - but they didn’t “make” him kill them. in fact, no one ever made joe do anything. they just put the pieces of his creepy little puzzle together and could have exposed him to the authorities and his victim - beck. point blank: you should not glorify joe. he is an abusive person who violated and killed people. just because his intention was to do something good, his way of doing that was not the way to go. for every irrational thing he did and masked as “saving” beck, there are a million other ways he could’ve gone about those situations. all he ever did was cover his own ass cause deep down he knew what he was doing was fucked up. he blamed other people for his terrible actions and figured it was justifiable because those people were not perfect either. difference is - they never killed anyone deliberately

the mixture of victim-blaming and cognitive dissonance that joe used trying to glorify himself as captain save a hoe is astounding

joe is extremely self righteous an narrow minded…..like uwu look at me i read books and don’t have social media so deep uwu i’ll kill you cause charles dickens said it was ok in a christmas carol headass

joe really taught a young, impressionable boy how to justify being a serial killer…..

Make fun of teen girls going through their “witch phase” all you want, but that is a young woman who has finally realized she is a powerhouse of spiritual authority who doesn’t need the world’s permission to manifest her desires. I would advise you not to fuck with her.

Anonymous asked: If I am of African descent, do I have to be initiated in order to connect/give thanks to the Orishas? Like say if I wanted to include them in my altars, does that require initiation? I’m referring to Santeria in this btw.

spiritroots:

You don’t necessarily have to be initiated at all to practice Santería, but you do have to be working under the guidance of an ilé or casa where you can get the necessary support and information from initiated priests and priestesses to know how to worship the Orishas and approach them respectfully. More information on this here.

So the short answer is “yes,” you could do what you described… but it would be very, very risky and could wind up ruining any potential for being on good terms with the Orishas or even worse, it could seriously damage your wellbeing and your lifeA big part of the issue is that you need to be able to communicate with the Orishas to make sure that you’re on good terms and that you’re working with them correctly. And you can only do those things by getting help and learning the traditions from an ilé.

Worshipping Orishas without guidance from an ilé would be like having a conversation with a stranger whose life story you’ve only read about in books or on the internet and who can hear everything you’re saying but you can’t hear or understand them very clearly. It could be fine for a while, but if you said something that offended them or if you didn’t understand what they were asking you to do, you wouldn’t know how to fix the situation or even necessarily realize that anything was wrong until it was too late and there were already serious consequences happening in your life that you don’t want.

Occasionally saying some simple prayers to them or lighting candles for them sometimes is probablyyyy alright (no promises)… but reaching out to them very consistently or making an altar space for them without traditional guidance is much more likely to run into those major issues. The Orishas have very specific likes and dislikes (that can only be learned through oral traditions), and they do take action in people’s lives depending on how they are treated and respected.
